We took an impromptu trip to the Franklin Park Zoo yesterday. It was chancy to be outside, there were a lot of thundershowers lurking about.
Intimidating clouds, no? It looks like it could be dusk in the photo, but it was only 2pm. Luckily, the weather held out for us, although we drove through intermittant downpours all the way there, it only sprinkled while we were at the zoo. And bonus, I actually remembered to bring my camera for a change. There are a dozen or so pictures of the animals up on my flickr page, but here's one of my favorites.
Half a dozen peacocks roam free in the zoo, and this one has made his home in the prairie dog exhibit. The peacock tries his hardest to look intimidating and scare the prairie dogs away, but they barely notice his efforts. In fact, one of the employees said that they steal his feathers to line their burrows! It was very amusing to watch them try to cohabitate.
